Offbeat things to do at Kapu Beach and Kapu Lighthouse

The lighthouse on a rock in Kapu is well known. The lighthouse at Kapu is surrounded by a beach and several eateries. Weekend evenings saw a lot of people at Kapu Beach because it is a popular destination for visitors visiting Udupi.

Near the Kapu lighthouse, a river empties into the Arabian Sea; because it is so shallow, it is a great place for families with children to cool off. However, it could be hazardous to enter at high tides.

When is the best time to visit Kapu Beach and the lighthouse?

Visit the lighthouse in the evening if you want to climb to the top. Otherwise, go on a weekday early morning when there aren't many people around if you wish to visit. On a weekend evening, you might have to park far away if you can't find a location to park.

Here are some offbeat things to do at Kaup Beach Lighthouse:

  • Climb the lighthouse: The Kaup Beach Lighthouse is a popular attraction for visitors, and climbing to the top offers a stunning view of the surrounding areas.

  • Explore the beach: Kaup Beach is known for its clean and peaceful environment. Take a stroll along the beach, collect sea shells, or simply relax on the sand.

  • Visit the 1000-year-old Kotilingeshwara Temple: The temple is located near the beach and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the oldest temples in the region and is a must-visit for history and architecture enthusiasts.

Where is Kaup Beach located?

If you have a car, you can use Google Maps to go to the parking lot at Kapu Beach. If you're coming from the Udupi side, I advise taking the Malpe-Mattu Beach oceanside route rather than the NH66 highway because it will be a more beautiful drive.

The Kapu/Katapadi bus stops on NH66 are accessible through public transportation from Udupi town to get you to Kapu Beach. In contrast, there are fewer direct buses. Your best option is to get off a bus at Kapu town on NH66 and hire an automobile to travel to the beach and lighthouse region. Just 2–2.5 miles separate Kapu town from the beach area, therefore it is possible to get there on foot.

Safety at Kaup Beach Lighthouse

Beach Kaup is quite secure. The water is not very deep, the currents are not very powerful, and assistance is constantly available. Since several police officers are on duty during the day, you shouldn't encounter any problems from others.
