Hattiangadi Village is famous for the ancient Shri Siddhivinayak Temple built in the eighth century and dedicated to Lord Ganesha and is named after one of the Lord Ganesa name Siddhivinayak, which means ‘He is the giver of all siddhis, meaning achievement, success and perfection.’ It is a historical and well-known pilgrimage site for the Hindus because it is the only temple of Lord Ganesha in the entire world where the idol of Lord Ganesha is with jata-hair. Lord Ganesha's trunk is bent towards the left. And the idol is 2.5 feet height carved from a Saligrama Stone with the Right hand inside the basement and the Left hand holding a vessel filled with modaks. The curly hair of Vinayaka is left loose at the back. The experts believe that the idol may be in standing posture and is of Bal Ganesha with just two arms and various ornaments all over the body.

Hattiangadi is now a small village but its beautiful landscape can attract anyone’s attention with Lush green mountains on one side and the flowing Varahi River on the other. During the Sixteenth Century, Sri Govindarama Yathivrya (Saint) used to visit the temple for meditation. And the then priest of the temple, Priest Rama Bhatt, got the reputation of Kavi Rama (Poet Rama). Priest Rama Bhatta also predicted that in the upcoming three hundred years the temple will become famous worldwide and see that the prediction was absolutely true! Devotees visit this temple from all across the world.

HISTORY

Hattiangadi was known as Pattinagara during the seventh and eighth centuries and was the capital of Alupa Kings, who ruled Tulunadu during this period. Alupa Kings had some ties with the nearby Jain Cities such as Purigere, earlier known as Lakshmeeshwara, and Hombuja, earlier known as Humcha. Hattiangadi was also known as Goshtipura because it hosted a number of intellectual debates during the reign of Hoysala and Honnekambala Kings. The Holy Temple was renovated firstly in 1980 and then in 1997 and the entire temple was built in Granites. Thirty-two idols of Lord Ganesha were brought and installed on the temple premises, along which Navgraha (Nine Planets) Temple was also constructed.

On special Occasions such as Ganesha Chowthi, Sankashtahara Chaturthi, and Navratri, and on the request of devotees every Tuesday, Friday, and Sunday; A yaga using 108 coconuts, Sahasra Narikela Ganayaga, Sri Sathya Ganapathi Vratha, Laksha Doorvarchane, Sindhura (kumkum) Archane, and others poojas are offered here for Lord Vinayaka.

And from the official website of the temple, it can be seen that 30 types of pooja are done in the temple on a daily basis which includes Mangalarathi, Havana, Rudrabhisheka, Offering of Prasads, and more. In addition to this, there is a list of Special Pooja Services, Monthly Seva Services, and Permanent Seva Services.

If the devotee can’t reach the temple to have Pooja Prasad, Temple Trust People take care of such devotees and provide a facility of sending Pooja Prasad to your given address. And even if you want to do any Pooja for someone, You just have to provide basic details like the Name of the Person (for the pooja to be done), Rashi, Nakshatra and Gothra, and the address, and your Pooja will be done by the Priest of the Temple. The amount of Pooja Services has to be transferred to the Temple’s Trust Bank Account, whose details are given on the official website to the temple. You can see how technology has helped us to even connect to God even sitting at home… How strange! Earlier people used to do Tapasyas and Meditate to get the Pooja done.

SOCIAL SERVICE DONE BY THE TEMPLE TRUST

Central Gurukul English Medium Residential School is being run by the temple to provide quality education and help the children to brighten their future. The Temple Management Team is also developing the Herbal Plantation worth Rs. 1 Crore and grows important herbals as mentioned in the Holy Book of Hindus. It also has a fountain, other lights, and a sound system to entertain the visitors.

Sri Ramchandra Bhat's team is the Managing Trustee of the temple and has done every essential work and pouted efforts in making a Perfect Hindu pilgrimage. Temple is connected to the well-built roads and also has a guest house in the Plantation area. Devotees are provided with free food in the Temple Dining hall which has accommodation of 400-500 people at one sitting.

Nestled amidst the lush greenery of Cubbon Park, NGMA Bengaluru stands as a testimony to India's artistic evolution over the years. From its establishment to the present day, this skillful gallery has been a sanctuary for artists and art lovers, showcasing a wide range of modern and traditional Indian art. In this blog, we will take a journey through time, exploring the historical significance and artistic essence of NGMA Bengaluru.

THE GENESIS OF NGMA BENGALURU

The National Gallery of Modern Art was inaugurated in 2009, but its roots can be traced back to the Bombay Art Society founded in 1888, and the subsequent establishment of the Sir J.J. School of Art in Mumbai in 1857. Over the years, various art movements and initiatives across the country culminated in the creation of the NGMA. In 1953, the first NGMA was established in Delhi, followed by branches in Mumbai and Bengaluru later on.

A PALIMPSEST OF INDIAN ART

NGMA Bengaluru has a wide collection of paintings, sculptures, prints, photographs, and other art forms, which gives us a life journey of an Indian artist. From traditional Indian art, showcasing the mastery of artists like Raja Ravi Varma and Abanindranath Tagore, to the bold strokes of modernists like F.N. Souza, M.F. Husain, and Tyeb Mehta, the gallery offers a comprehensive overview of the nation's art history.

The Renaissance of Indian Art:

Post-independence, India witnessed a renaissance in its art scene, and this resurgence is aptly captured within the walls of NGMA Bengaluru. The progressive artists' group, formed in the 1940s, played a pivotal role in pushing the boundaries of Indian art. Pioneers like K.H. Ara, S.H. Raza, and M.F. Husain experimented with new styles, themes, and techniques, reflecting the changing socio-political landscape of the nation. The NGMA Bengaluru showcases some of its finest works, immortalizing this transformative phase in Indian art.

PRESERVING INDIGENOUS ART FORMS

While modern art took center stage, NGMA Bengaluru also cherishes and celebrates indigenous art forms. Tribal art, folk art, and crafts find their rightful place here, connecting the contemporary art world with India's roots. The gallery not only preserves these art forms but also actively promotes them, providing a platform for local artisans and artists to showcase their talent and sustain their traditional practices.

A MELTING POT OF CULTURES

India's artistic essence lies not only in its diversity of styles but also in the amalgamation of cultures. NGMA Bengaluru, being a melting pot of traditions, proudly exhibits artworks from different regions and cultural backgrounds. It showcases the versatility and universality of Indian art, as it transcends geographical boundaries and speaks a language that resonates with people from all walks of life.

PROMOTING ART EDUCATION AND ENGAGEMENT

NGMA Bengaluru doesn't restrict itself to being just a repository of artworks. It plays an active role in promoting art education and engagement. This inclusive approach fosters a deeper understanding and appreciation of the artistic process, fostering a new generation of art lovers and connoisseurs.

Bengaluru's National Gallery of Modern Art stands as a beacon of India's artistic spirit, providing a sanctuary for creativity and a platform for artists to express their visions. From its humble beginnings to its current stature, NGMA Bengaluru has been a witness to the ever-evolving artistic essence of India. By preserving traditional art forms and embracing contemporary expressions, this esteemed institution continues to inspire and nurture the artistic journey of the nation. As we visit NGMA Bengaluru and immerse ourselves in the captivating world of Indian art, we can't help but marvel at the rich tapestry of creativity that has unfolded over the years, shaping India's artistic heritage into what it is today.

<![CDATA[Bull Temple, Bangalore- an Architectural Wonder]]>https://www.wildvalley.in/post/bull-temple-bangalore-an-architectural-wonder64b900d62dffc38a519bd56dThu, 20 Jul 2023 10:15:56 GMTBAMA PThe largest and one of the oldest Nandi temples in the world, The Bull Temple, also known as Nandi Temple and Dodda Basavana Gudi, is one of Bangalore's most notable and historic temples. As implied by the name, it is devoted to Nandi, a holy bull worshiped as a Hindu demi-god and Lord Shiva's ride. The Bull Temple in Bangalore will be discussed in this blog, along with its history, architecture, opening hours, admission price, attractions, and other amazing and lesser-known details.

History

The temple was constructed in 1537 by a monarch by the name of Kempe Gowda, who is well known for being the founder of Bengaluru, the capital city of Karnataka. Although the Nandi statue appears to be black, such was not the case when it was constructed. The idol's original color was grey. But the statue eventually turned black because worshippers kept coating it with oil and charcoal.

Lord Shiva put the iron plate on the bull's head there to prevent the idol from expanding. According to an inscription at the temple, the Vrishabhavathi River, which flows through Bengaluru's western district, originates from a spring that sits beneath the Nandi statue.

Architecture

The current "Vimana," which rises over the shrine, was constructed in the early 20th century, but the temple itself has remained untouched over the years. The Vijayanagara style of architecture, which was popular in the 1500s, has a significant effect on the temple's design. A Shivalingam is seen behind the single granite stone from which the Nandi deity was carved. Meanwhile, Shaiva motifs are used to decorate the Vimana. The idol is about 20 feet long and 15 feet high and is carved out of a single granite boulder. A Shiva Lingam is set next to it, and it is set on a plinth.

The temple also houses statues of the Moon God (Chandra) and the Sun God (Surya). Simple and elegant, the temple's exterior features a pyramid-shaped roof constructed of red tiles. The porch of the temple's entrance is supported by four pillars that are carved with mythical creatures. A gopuram (gateway tower) that is typical of Dravidian temple construction also adorns the entrance.

Devotees can pray to the deity in the inner sanctum, a shadowy, enigmatic area. Numerous Hindu gods are depicted in elaborate carvings and sculptures on the sanctum's walls. The enormous statue of Nandi, which stands roughly 4.6 metres high and 6 metres long, is the temple's main draw. This massive Nandi statue is thought to be the biggest one ever created.

Things to See in the Bull Temple

Large monolithic Nandi statue, Shiva Lingam, and statues of the Sun and Moon God are also present in the temple.

A park featuring natural rock formations that have been around for generations is called Bugle Rock Park. There are many trees there, paved walking routes, and a water tank with murals of famous Karnataka residents including Kempe Gowda, Mokshagundam Visvesvarayya, and D.V. Gundappa. The densely treed garden is also home to a sizable population of fruit bats.

It is estimated that the Bugle boulder, a large boulder, is 3000 million years old. It ranks among the top attractions of Bugle Rock Park. Views of the city are stunning from the watchtower erected on the cliff.

Interesting Facts about Bull Temple

According to legend, the current location of the shrine was formerly a sizable groundnut field. Farmers in the area banded together to stop a wild bull from ruining the crops, but a battle broke out when they attempted to do so. When a farmer accidentally struck the bull on the head during the battle, the animal quickly changed into a statue that grew larger every day. The terrified farmers prayed to Lord Shiva, who heard their prayers and put a metal plate on the statue's head to stop it from growing.

Festivals at Bull Temple

Other notable holidays include Maha Shivaratri, Pradosham, and the groundnut festival, which takes place in November or December.

Shivaratri

One of the most important holidays observed at the Bull Temple is Shivaratri. To honour Lord Shiva, it is held in February or March. Devotees fast on this day and offer Lord Shiva and Nandi special prayers.

Karthik Poornima

The largest festival held at the Bull Temple and is observed in November or December. Numerous worshippers congregate at the temple, which is illuminated, to offer prayers and ask Lord Shiva and Nandi for blessings. The annual parade around the temple with a decked Nandi deity is the festival's main attraction.

Ugadi

For residents of Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, Ugadi is the start of the new year. In March or April, it's observed as the start of the Hindu lunar calendar. Traditional rituals, specific prayers, and offerings to the gods are used to celebrate the occasion.

Ganesh Chaturthi

To honour Lord Ganesha, a ten-day event called Ganesh Chaturthi is held in August or September. At the Bull Temple, the event is observed with tremendous fervour, devotion, and special prayers and offerings to Lord Ganesha.

Navaratri

Nine-day celebration Navaratri is held in September or October to honour Goddess Durga. The Bull Temple is festooned with flowers and lights as part of the festival's fervour.

The Bull Temple is a magnificent architectural marvel that showcases Bangalore's rich cultural past. It is a must-visit location for anybody interested in history, culture, or art because of its enormous monolithic Nandi statue, basic yet attractive architecture, and intricate carvings. If you are considering a trip to Bangalore, don't skip this location. You can observe the culture and architecture while you pray.

<![CDATA[Unveiling the Architectural Marvel of Vidhana Soudha]]>https://www.wildvalley.in/post/unveiling-the-architectural-marvel-of-vidhana-soudha64b8db5331ee9d43c13751b8Thu, 20 Jul 2023 07:42:17 GMTwildvalley26Vidhana Soudha is the pride of Karnataka. This famous structure is situated in Bangalore, the state of Karnataka's capital, in southern India. The structure is the pinnacle of contemporary Indian architecture and a representation of the strength of the state. In this blog, we'll look into the background, architecture, and significance of this famous structure.

History

The Vidhana Soudha, a well-known landmark of Bangalore, was constructed in 1954. This enormous structure, which features four domes on each of its four corners, is a stunning example of neo-Dravidian architecture. Additionally, it serves as a home for the Legislative Chamber of Karnataka. The massive structure is luminously lit at night. The history of Vidhana Soudha begins in the early 1950s, when the state of Mysore, which later changed its name to Karnataka, desperately needed a majestic structure to host its legislative assembly. The notion of building a new structure that would reflect the state's cultural identity and serve as a symbol of its political strength was put forth by the state's Chief Minister, K.C. Reddy. Kengal Hanumanthaiah, an outstanding politician with a strong love for architecture and the conviction that a state's buildings should reflect its identity, was tasked with creating the building's design. Hanumanthaiah studied the legislative structures of several nations during his travels, and he was particularly inspired by the Capitol in Washington, DC, which he saw as the epitome of classical architecture.

Architecture

The Brihadeshwara temple in Tanjore and the Somnathpur temple in Karnataka served as inspiration for the design of Vidhana Soudha. Mysuru Neo-Dravidian architecture, incorporating elements of traditional European and Indo-Saracenic styles, is a feature of Vidhana Soudha. It has adopted a number of characteristics from the Chalukya, Hoysala, and Vijayanagar empires, three mediaeval countries.

The carving of a four-headed lion guards the entrance of Vidhana Soudha, which is reached by a flight of 45 steps measuring 204 feet wide and 70 feet deep. The first-floor foyer, which is also connected to the Assembly Chamber, is reached by the stairs. Richly carved pillars, arches, cornice bases, and capitals are a hallmark of Dravidian architecture.

The Vidhana Soudha was built entirely from "Bangalore granite" and porphyry, and it includes decorative domes on each of its four corners. 'Magadi pink' and 'Turuvekere black' stones have also been employed to enhance a visual impression. The building also has contemporary designs made of glass, cement, steel, and other elements. To ensure that the structure was completed in four years (i.e., 1956), thousands of people labored nonstop. The majority of the unskilled laborers used to build the structure were prisoners who were released when it was finished. 1500 carvers, masons, and chisellers were employed during the construction of the Vidhana Soudha. This three-story stone building cost a total of Rs. 1.84 crores to build.

Interesting facts about Vidhana Soudha

1. With a 60-acre footprint, Vidhana Soudha is India's biggest legislative structure. More than 80,000 cubic feet of granite from the surrounding towns of Mallasandra and Hesaraghatta were used to build the structure.

2. The offices of the Chief Minister and other state ministers are located in Vidhana Soudha, a building with four floors and a basement.

3. The Indian national crest, which is made of solid gold, is affixed to the 60-foot-diameter building's central dome.

4. The structure comprises more than 300 rooms and halls, including the banquet hall, legislative assembly hall, and legislative council hall.

Visiting Vidhana Soudha: A Must-See Destination for History and Architecture Enthusiasts

When the weather is not too hot and dry, between March and May is the ideal time to visit Vidhana Soudha. The monsoon season, which lasts from June to August and brings severe rain to the city, may not be the best time to travel there. Winter months from October to February are when temperatures are at their lowest, this is an excellent time to visit the palace because the weather will be pleasant. The entrance to Vidhana Soudha is free. Do your best to obtain special authorization to enter Vidhana Soudha's interior locations, which are off-limits to the general public.

Finally, the tale of Vidhana Soudha is a tribute to the democratic ideals and the will of a fledgling state to forge its own identity. The structure serves as a symbol of Karnataka's rich cultural history and the state's dedication to protecting and advancing it. It is an absolute architectural marvel that represents the political clout of the state and will continue to serve as an inspiration to future generations.
